$100 a day bloggingThe $100 a Day Blogging Project is my step by step, all tips revealed, guide to taking this blog (and hopefully yours too) to the modest goal of $100 a day profit.

There are a lot easier ways to make $100 a day online, but most of them require more experience or specialized skills than blogging, which is probably why so may are drawn to the idea of blogging for money.

While $100 a day is not a grand amount I chose it for a couple reasons: the first is that it costs me, currently about $3000 a month to live and second is that I think that most people who want to make money online by blogging would be okay with that amount as an initial target. It’s a nice round number that would allow most people to quite their jobs and experience freedom from the rat race.

Why am I Doing the $100 a Day Blogging Project?

  1. I was reading How to Make Money From Your Blog by Steve Pavlina and there was a section where he says…

If you do decide to generate income from your blog, then don’t be shy about it. If you’re going to put up ads, then really put up ads. Don’t just stick a puny little ad square in a remote corner somewhere. If you’re going to request donations, then really request donations. Don’t put up a barely visible “Donate” link and pray for the best. If you’re going to sell products, then really sell them. Create or acquire the best quality products you can, and give your visitors compelling reasons to buy. If you’re going to do this, then fully commit to it. Don’t take a half-assed approach. Either be full-assed or no-assed.

…and it had a ring of truth for me. When I first started this site, I was planning to use it as a launching pad for my own products, but since then I have changed direction so, even though I put quite a bit of energy into writing on Art of Money, it hasn’t made me much money.

  2. It occurred to me that it is slightly hypocritical not to monetize a blog called Art of Money :) and I thought that it would be fun to provide an open-book and highly detailed case study for others who want to make money from their blogs.
  3. Probably the most important reason is simply that I can use the money. In the past couple weeks my living expenses have, due to purchasing a condo in an insane real estate market, risen dramatically. While I still have funding budgeted with my current project until December, it will be a little less stressful to have a bit of income coming in along the way.

Overcome Self Limitations

I noticed a belief in me that because I really enjoyed writing on Art of Money, is was somehow un-cool to combine that with making money.

I’ve noticed a slightly disturbing behavioral pattern in myself … I call it the “back door syndrome.” It is a close relative to the “lack of commitment syndrome” and is characterized by a strong reluctance to enter into any type of binding agreements.

For example, it you set a goal of wanting to make money from your blog, they you have to commit to providing valuable content to your readers.

Up until now, it has been more important to me to be able to have the freedom not to post, or post YouTube videos for 5 days straight or provide posts that were for my own personal benefit, than it was to really maximize the value that I can deliver to you the reader, and in exchange, expect to build a financially rewarding site.

Now that is all going to change.

What It Means to Readers

$$$$. You’ll see all types of monetization creeping onto the pages of Art of Money. Ads, affiliate links etc. My goal will be to deliver value to you, and have you be happy that I am being rewarded for the information that I’m providing. Most prominant will be affiliate links, but if I see a product that I can develop for my target market, that will come as well.

Better Content. You can look forward to reading higher quality, more focused and actionable content. Since it is my belief that the best way to make money is to become more valuable to those around you, that is what I intend to do.

A Roadmap. If you want to make money with your blog, or online in general, the process that I’ll lay out, will directly help you as you’ll get to see all the steps I’m taking as I move towards my goal with clear explanations of why I’m implementing each one.

The Plan

I’ll go through the complete process from: idea to market research, to strategy, to monetization techinques and traffic building and tracking metrics.

In short, by the end I hope to have provided a step by step roadmap for going from concept to $100 a day from blogging and being liberated from your day job!

Other Factors

This site is over a year old, so it is out of the Google sandbox and already has an established readership, so if you’re playing a long on your own site, you probably won’t be able to match my results as quickly. On the other hand don’t limit yourself; it is certainly not impossible for bloggers to have success in a very short time.

Want to join in? Maybe you are an expert wanting to connect with a new market by sharing your profitable blogging tips, or you’d like to join in and transform/create your own $100 a day blog.

I’m game. This $1/day is getting old. Especially since I got a freelance writing job paying two orders of magnitude more for less time commitment.

But I’m not going to blog about it. That’s not what my readers come to my site for.

I’m definitely up for this. I’ve been meaning to get into the blogging scene for quite a while now. Obviously I’m pretty inexperienced at the moment but I definitely feel I’ll be able to provide good content that will (eventually) accumulate a decent reader base.

So yeah, count me in!

It’s kinda funny that you just set this goal, because I just charted out my short term and long term goals for my site and I think $100 a day is very achievable. I’m gonna have to keep checking back…Here’s some adsense clicks for ya!

@Lacey, I sincerely hope you are joking about the AdSense clicks. AdSense relies on sincerity in clicking on the ads, clicking for any other reason, no matter how noble the intention, is a VERY BAD IDEA.
1.) I could be banned if Google suspects that I somehow requested you to click, and believe me they runs very sophisticated pattern analysis against all clicks to check for suspicious clicks. So you aren’t doing anyone a favor by clicking on the ads if you aren’t sincerely interested in what is being advertised.
2) while you may think you are being generous towards me by making me a few cents, you are taking money away from an honest merchant. If you want to give me a gift, pay for it yourself, don’t steal the money from someone else to give to me.

Great Idea. I’m looking forward to watching you walk your audience (including me) through this process.

Best of luck!

I’m hopefully throwing you some newbies Jon.
Please be nice to them.

Jon,

Could you add your benchmarks post to the series?
I think that’s the best post for newbies to start with. Shows where you’re coming from.

Love the branding. Giving it the same logo.

K added these pithy words on May 03 07 at 6:58 am

K, I have added the benchmark post to the $100 category. By using this links you’ll be able to see all the posts in that category: $100 a day blogging
At some point in the next few days I’ll put up a reference page, with a list of all the articles in the series.

Jon added these pithy words on May 03 07 at 6:31 pm

I will do this with you. I don’t want any adsense on my site though, so I hope you have other strategies with this plan. It I make $50 a day actually…I will be happy enough.

Jennifer added these pithy words on May 04 07 at 6:04 am

I’ll join in with all of you. I believe that $100 a day is totally achievable. I look forward to participating any way I can.
