Are You a ‘Make Money Online’ Addict?
Most Internet marketing gurus are expert copywriters. They know how to produce sales letters that make big promises that exploit your desire to make a living online.
The problem with many of these self-styled “experts” is that they do not make money from anything other than selling Internet marketing as a form of business opportunity.
Both online and offline, the business opportunity — or “biz opp” — field is a huge market.
You need to understand that the marketing materials directed to biz opp prospects are designed to profit the creator, but not the customer.
It’s similar to the psychology of a gambling addiction.
Even if the products that they are selling are “real” and could potentially make a lot of money, let’s take a look behind the scenes at what is really going on.
Someone is selling a ’system’ for making money online. Let’s take Click Flipping or Google Cash (Google cash or click flipping is simply purchasing AdWords traffic and sending it directly to an affiliate page. The key is to be able to purchase enough clicks to make one sale at a lower cost than the payment from the affiliate sale. If you can do that, then you have a profitable and scaleable business system that is very easy to operate) as an example. It’s a really cool system, but where did this cool system come from? Did they purchase an e-book to create it?
“I am lazy and I don’t really believe in myself, and I don’t want to fully engage in life, that’s why I need to follow someone else’s system.”
No, they invented it.
Hard work, exploration, taking chances, perseverance, creativity…those are the qualities that lead to making money (and personal satisfaction), either online or off-line.
By learning the fundamentals of the market and then applying those fundamentals with your whole heart and being and you cannot fail.
Most People Want it to Be Easy
Why people fall for these Internet marketing sales pitches (myself included) is that we want to believe that the “right” system, will automatically succeed.
In my experience and observation it is the the people who break new ground, in one way or another, that succeed.
Chasing False Hopes Makes People Stupid
Biz opp marketing is intended to exploit your addiction to money-making information.
People who chase the hope that they can live their dreams without moving beyond their comfort zones are the easiest people to exploit and sell products to.
That’s why the ‘make money online’ or ‘business opportunity’ business is so huge. They are promising easy ways to make money.
The problem is, and why it doesn’t work, is that when you purchase one of these promises (products) you are telling yourself is:
“I am lazy and I don’t really believe I can accomplish my dreams, and I don’t want to fully engage in life, that’s why I need to follow someone else’s system.”
It’s the same message that people send when they buy a lottery ticket. Ask the question, “What’s the message that is being sent with this action?”
Not All Internet Marketing Products Are Bad
They aren’t. Some are great I’m sure. But…BUT…what determines whether they are good or bad is not the product, but your attitude when you buy it.
A. “I hope this is going to make me rich, so I can quit my crappy job.”
B. “I have a plan and this tool fits perfectly with the strategy that I developed to reach my goal.”
There is a huge difference between the personal empowerment level of the 2 attitudes. The first one “A” will fail no matter what program or system you put in front of them. “B” will succeed no matter what; any specific great tools that you feed into that attitude will just speed up the inevitable.
The Conductor is Almost Powerless
When I was a kid my Grandfather was a railway engineer and he let me drive a train around in the rail yard. It was funny though, because you don’t really “drive” a train. I was disappointed to learn that all I could do was follow the tracks. If the tracks were set up to turn left, then no matter what I did I couldn’t make the train go straight.
It’s the same with making money online or anywhere else. Before you can make money, you need to realize that the reason you aren’t currently rich is that your tracks aren’t set up in that direction.
The best place to work and where I’ve seen the greatest return on my investments….is by ripping up and replacing the tracks in my heart and mind.
For me the most profound shifts have come from reading Robert Kiyosaki’s books, but I’m sure there are many others who deliver a similar message.
Work on the underlying systems in your heart that really control your direction and then every “business opportunity” will benefit you; but go in with hopes and dreams and you’ll end up with a not much more than a folder full of e-Books that you never use and a VISA bill that you’ll have to work overtime to pay off.

I found the more I stayed away from the crapola on the net the less distracted and I was more focused on business. Keep your head up and keep plugin away… good things are bound to happen.

Promod Sharma added these pithy words on Apr 28 07 at 2:37 pmExcellent points, Jon. I attended a Real Estate and Wealth Expo in Toronto with headliners Donald Trump and Tony Robbins.
The real purpose was to subject attendees to sales pitches for numerous ways to get rich quick. By taking a course, typically $1,000. And yes, high pressure tactics were being used. Act now. Don’t think.(see http://riscario.blogspot.com/2007/03/secrets-to-billionaire-success.html)
If you *know* how to make gobs of money, wouldn’t you focus your time there? If you felt you’d made your fortune and wanted to help others, wouldn’t you offer free or low cost courses to help others improve their finances? You could put free content online.
I hear The Beach Boys in my head “Wouldn’t it be nice …”
