It’s Weird, but Thanks

Last night, the funniest thing happened to me…I started to feel very grateful for things in my life.

It’s not that I’m a bad person who never feels gratitude; that’s not what makes it weird. What makes it weird is that today is American Thanksgiving and I’m Canadian!

My patriotic Canadian psyche said, “Jon…gratitude…wtf?” So I started to think about it.

Being americanized is just a fact of life when you work online. Anyone who has made a few bucks from selling products or advertising dollars knows that U.S. working week days are the peak days and U.S. holidays and weekends are the low days.

Since I don’t have a job, the Canadian holidays don’t really mean anything different in my life, but the American ones affect the bottom line, so like a plant to the sun…I seem to be more affected by them. Maybe it really is becoming a global village [good Canadian media commentary] after all.

Back to the gratitude. I really am living the life of my dreams right now and I’d like to say thanks to some of the people who touch me everyday.

My Wife

Who supported my transition from wood-worker to computer geek and has continued to support my crazy dreams even when many others wouldn’t. Seeing her put her own best interests aside so that I can follow through with my passions is really inspirational and something I cherish.

I’ve seen a lot of couples were one hits the brakes when the other goes out on a limb, and that makes things really tough.

My Readers

Thanks to everyone who reads this site and especially those who take the time to leave a comment or send an email or reply to my newsletters. It means a lot to me just to know that you guys are all out there enjoying and watching what I’m up to. Two years ago when I first started blogging it blew my mind when I realized that people were actually reading my site and it still does now.

To give someone your time is a valuable gift and I appreciate it.

Darren Rowse

Problogger is the site I read the most on the web and recently I realized that I always feel like Darren is looking out for me as a reader and writes with my best interest in mind. That’s a rare thing, most people go for the easy way and sell out that approach out when they achieve what he has. Darren is also the top affiliate for my blog videos, and I appreciate that too.

Brian Clark

Another daily read, CopyBlogger taught me a lot about writing and how to work a sales pitch. More than that though Brian’s combination of humor and effectiveness draws me in and I always look forward to opening the email when a new CopyBlogger story or Tubtorial lands in my inbox.

Ze Frank

Ze thanks a lot for doing the thinking so I don’t have to. Trust me it’s a big relief and I’m much happier now, especially when I watch the show. You remind me what it’s like to let creativity loose…and what’s it’s like to be in Grade 8 again. :)

Robert Kiyosaki

Thanks to Robert [aka Rich Dad] for your amazing books that changed my life by opening my eyes to the alternatives to exchanging hours for dollars.

Also thanks to the gang at the Rich Dad forums [kimber, emorgan, jscott and the rest] for living the alternatives and showing me that it is possible to make the transition from wage earner to asset creator; and for supporting me to make the transition too. Looking forward to seeing you guys all again in March.

The Wild Rabbit

Lastly I’m feeling a lot of gratitude to the wild Rabbit [he's actually a Hare from what I understand] who comes a couple times a week and sits outside my kitchen window. He or she just enjoys sitting still and being. He sat there yesterday for 6 hours…it was -15 Celcius.

He just likes that spot I guess. He teaches me a lot about being real and small and what it’s like to live without needing possessions or any of the other things that I often get caught up on.

Take care everyone,

Jon Symons

Well, uh, Happy Thanksgiving, then! I know it’s a little late, but the whole weekend is for celebrating, so…

Thanks a lot Alison, same to you. I thought the weekend was for football, but I guess that’s the same thing :)
