Is Scambusting an Online Goldmine?
I was doing some market research for another project and I wanted to share an interesting discovery. Part of the purpose of the project is for me to try my first AdWords campaign (a current hole in my online business toolbox) and I was researching existing ads for the topic that I’m after.
Here are the top ten ads for the phrase “no teletrack payday loans”

Next I ran them through Glyhpius (my Glyphius review) to score them. For those of you that don’t know about Glyphius it’s a little scanning application that allows you to “score” phrases against a huge database of previously proven profitable terms. In essence it allows you determine the selling potential of a word, term or phrase based on what words, terms and phrases have been found on highly profitable ads from the past year.
I loaded them all into Glyphius (broken into components) and here’s the results (the Glyhpius score is in front of each phrase):

What is interesting to me about this data, is how high the phrases with the word “scam” in it have ranked. Remember this data is based on known profitable advertising. Which means that the word “scam” is proven to be profitable.
Why Market Research is So Valuable
The purpose of market research is to discover valuable nuggets of information. And my revelation above is a perfect example of one of those types of mini-goldmines. I know that in a lot of niches there is space for taking the angle of scam buster as a unique approach that would build trust with an audience and provide a competitive differentiation.
There is obviously a lot of fear of being ripped off when doing anything online and acknowledging that can be an important factor in a profitable website.

I was interested in your post because I use AdWords on a daily basis, for myself and for managing other people’s campaigns. I always make sure my campaigns are geotargeted, have relevant keywords in the ad text, and I use inventory.overture.com (free) to test keyword popularity.
When I set up richminx.com I noticed that keywords like ‘girls finance’ were cheap with very little competition. I also browsed money blogs written by females and noticed there weren’t that many.
