Dear Internet Business Santa,

I promise I’ve been good this year. I hardly got into any flame wars at all and I didn’t do any black hat SEO [well not for a while anyways] so here my wish list…please provide ASAP:

1.) A business coach/mentor who can:

  • call me on it when I’m full of shit and/or deceiving myself
  • help me get to my goals much faster
  • guide me to work at the point of greatest leverage more often
  • help me calm down when everything is going to hell
  • be kind and is wise enough not to confuse his own BS with mine

2.) A business analyst who can:

  • understand the processes involved in my business
  • create reporting systems that present key metrics
  • design systems and processes [technical and non-technical] to ratchet up profits from these systems
  • design systems and processes [technical and non-technical] to improve efficiencies and drive down costs in the business

3.) A reliable technical person(s) who can:

  • install, configure and maintain WordPress
  • take care of web server configuration, technical and security issues
  • can create applications to automate regular tasks
  • set up and configure a hosting account, including email
  • register domain names and configure DNS

4.) A highly skilled developer(s) that can:

  • gather and analyze requirements for development processes within the business
  • create applications that automate business processes

5.) A trustworthy web developer(s) who can:

  • quickly create secure, efficient and scalable php/mysql data driven web sites
  • understands modular design so that elements can be re-used for various projects

6.) A visual designer(s)who can:

  • produce an eye pleasing and effective design quickly.
  • understands the difference between what is trendy and timeless and knows when to use each of them.
  • knows how to work with me to get the best of our collaborative visions.

7.) High quality content creators who can:

  • understand my style of effective communication [baby steps - fall over simple]
  • produce written and illustrated tutorials
  • blog effectively about a topic
  • produce engaging video [screencast] tutorials

8.) A general assistant(s) who can:

  • screen emails so that I only take care of essential ones…they handle the rest by funneling them to the appropriate person
  • take care of routine errands [bank deposits, office supplies etc]
  • bookkeeping and dealing with accounting
  • legal stuff: filing papers, maintain minute books
  • take minutes at meetings and organize my notes
  • compile and present me with a report of the businesses key metrics

Thanks a lot Santa, I’ve left a Grande Mocha and a biscotti over by the door.

  1. Jonno— are you not using JB as a mentor/coach anymore?

  2. No J…I bailed.

  3. [...] Liz had tracked me down via MyBlogLog [which, in a brilliant right turn of a business model, has re-invented itself into a pretty decent networking and social tagging site] and emailed me to tell me why, if I was serious about my Internet business, I needed her Perfect Virtual Manager service. 4. If Santa comes through, please let me know what you did to be good this year so I can replicate in 2007 :)

  5. Hey moneysmartlife, you’d be amazed at home many of the things in that list have begun to manifest since I put it up, it blows me away. Never be afraid to ask for what you want.
