Why I’m Not Leaving Comments on Your Blog

Somehow I’ve managed to find myself on the Akismet spam list. Don’t know if is my IP address or whatever part of my profile fits their algorithm for spam detection, but I can’t leave a comment anywhere that doesn’t go straight to the spam folder.

Two steps I’ve taken to rectify the situation:

  1. Commented on a few reputable sites, and contacted the authors and asked them to “un-spam” my comments. This supposed to notify Akismet and remove the sender from the blacklist…like I said it’s been over 2 weeks now and I’ve been de-spammed by at least a couple A-List bloggers, but I STILL CAN’T EVEN LEAVE A COMMENT ON MY OWN SITE!!!
  2. I’ve contacted Akismet, and plead my case…but I have this sneaking suspicion that they use their own spam system to moderate their contact form…which makes it impossible for me to get in touch with them.

It’s the web’s version of Catch 22.

    You can thank ‘.org’ for your troubles. When I use my .org website in comments, it’s straight to spam hell for me too.

    Btw, I’m mad at you because you’re not coming to Phoenix…if I would have know before I booked my flight I would have come East first to kick your butt :)

    Does it have feedback for the “Not spam” to learn it’s mistakes? Feel free to leave me a comment and I’ll mark you as “not spam” and we can figure it out. Hmmm, now that I think about that, it probably won’t work because then spamers would just set up blogs to un-spamer themselves.

    Leroy, your theory appears to be correct. When I use my blog network site as the URL http://www.hometurfmedia.com/ it works fine and I can leave comments again. Thanks for the tip, I assumed it was filtering by IP address and I never would have thought that .org was “bad”…guess I’ll have to see if artofmoney.info is available :)

    Oh, post away comments at my site. LOL….

    I don’t use them. I use the manual one by one method which sucks sometimes, but I don’t like Akismet. I mean I like the idea and such…and they probably do good. I just don’t get enough junk to need them…probably up until now. Huh? LOL…

    I don’t know what I did to p*** off the internet gods (likely not booking that trip to Phoenix).
    I just might have to sacrifice Jon’s .org domain name to appease them.

    About Phoenix, I got sucked into another contract (I’m the temporary North American controller for a company specializing in pork fat…basically working in a slaughterhouse, the smell alone…) that is going long (was supposed to only be for January). Plus its tax season. Sorry!

    Hi Jon… also check to see if you have the latest version of the Akismet plugin installed. They did an update about a week ago and that could solve your problem.
