Babe Spamming With MyBlogLog Avatars

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed.

A simple question…which one of the squares in the following image gets the most clicks?

my blog log images

Here’s a hint:

my blog log babe spam

I clicked through, and the site is owned by a person named “Alvin” so I have a hunch that this isn’t his/her real picture.

I call it babe spam: a guy takes a sexy picture and use it as your avatar…sex sells after all. People have been doing it for years on forums.

Would you do it for a few extra visitors to your site?

Not me, I find anything that isn’t honest to not be worth it in the long run. When people click through and you’re not fulfilling their expectations - a sexy host versus a site about Internet marketing, I think the disconnect probably creates even less of a chance of attracting new readers than to actually use a “real” image.

What do you think? Worth it or not?

  1. Hey…

I would have chosen the red face guy with the simple stick drawing.

    I am not a babe magnet sorry….

  2. Maybe b/c I am a girl and am kind of turned off by that “babe” I wouldn’t click on it. So not interested.

  3. Well, I’m using E’s avatar so perhaps I’m guilty as charged. LOL

I would have chosen the cartoon guy with glasses and the cool hair. Stuck in the 50’s.

  4. My guess was the guy in the glasses in front of the light colored brick wall…

  5. J…that’s the one I was expecting the ladies to choose ;)

  6. Hi!

I would like to know why my pic wasn’t up there ???

    Oh!!!!!!!!

It is because I AM a female.

Interesting post. I have to admit, when I first started blogging, a few thought I was a male. You wouldn’t even believe what I had to do to prove them wrong! j/k! LOL!

  7. I love the term “babe spam!” I know this is going on - and of course, as a marketer we roll our eyes at the idea that you can be successful long term with something as disengenous as this.

What IS interesting is that YOU CLICKED through. Which of course, is totally a guy thing.

But, if I were going to pull a strategy like this - to create a “persona” for a niche market - I would not have a babe photo lead to a guy name.

The gross out factor is WAY too high!

    YUCK!

  8. If he got you to click, then its worth it! LOL

By the way, my babe pic IS me

  9. @Rick, you’re right the Yuck factor definitely outweighs the click factor!

@Dr Wright, then you’d better get over to My Gravatars and signup since WordPress is using them rather than My Blog Log…

Think of all the clicks you’re missing out on!!!!

  10. Maybe I’m just cranky tonight but I lose a bit of respect for people who do that. Not only with avatars, but using “babe” pictures in anything. I’ve seen lots of internet marketing sites with pictures of booby girls in the header even though it’s completely irrelevant. Too bad there are lots of guys who fall for this. Lame.
