Clickbank Affiliates Beware

I’ve been noticing lately with my Blog Setup Videos that the number of people making purchases without coming through an affiliate link has been going up. I thought this was kind of odd, but didn’t pay too much attention.

Then while hanging out at one of my newly discovered favorite reads about earning money, I discovered a possible explanation.

Apparently Internet Explorer has built into it a list of sites that are blocked from setting cookies (that’s the way that Clickbank and may other affiliate program track referrals) form the clickbank.net domain, which is the domain in Clickbank’s infamous hoplinks.

I just checked the stats on my blog videos site and upwards of 30% of visitors are using Internet Explorer 7.

This means that merchants who use Clickbank as their affiliate management systems are getting a little more love than usual, and affiliates who are promoting products through clickbank could be losing up to 30% of potential revenues.

Ouch!

I recommend telling your friends and then petitioning Clickbank to change the domain on their hoplinks.

Update: It looks like IE7 is not the real problem, it is from anti-spyware applications like Spybot that populate those setting in IE7.
