Affiliate Linking Redux

About a month ago I showed you how to potentially increase your affiliate link click through rate by using a domain redirect.

But astute newsletter reader Jody noticed that in yesterday’s Passive Income Tips I used another type of affiliate redirect.

That gave me the perfect post idea for the third edition of Techie Tuesdays. The affiliate link redux or version 2…the cheapskates clean redirect.

The link looked like this:

Affiliate Sales Letter

Which if you mouse over, presents a nice clean affiliate link to the Affiliate Sales Letter product.

Jody wanted to know what software I used to create the redirect link. Good news money lovers [sorry, I've been watching way too many Ze Frank videos lately and I slip into his tacky announcer voice often in my head] I didn’t use any fancy software package costing up to $97 dollars, I just created them myself.

Watch the video to see how I did it.

Here’s the code you’ll need to put in the index.php file to create an affiliate redirect.

Update: it looks like copy and pasting the following code causes problems. So right click this and download the file and extract the index.php from the video. Then you can put your new link into it and upload it just like in the video.

<?php
header( 'Location: http://youraffiliatelink.com?somestuff=here' ) ;
?
>
*** for example only...download the file from the link above, or else you'll get an error because copy and paste causes problems

The link I created in the video is for a full featured affiliate link management program by Mike Filsaime called:

PowerLink Generator

… which is a nice clean version of this mess

https://paydotcom.com/r/72/JonnyCash/328622/

by turning it into:

Happy affiliate link promoting.

  1. Hey John, do you know how come the ‘on mouse over’ command works to hide the URL when I do it in Dreamweaver but not when I upload it to my site?

  2. Ken,

    Have you tried it in different browsers? It could be that it works in Internet Explorer, but not in Firefox…or vice versa. If that’s not the problem, give me more details or the link to what isn’t working and I’ll have a look.
